Yarmouth school

Wednesday 8 January 2020

Hope it’s okay to talk about a bit of politic once in a life?
🀣🀣🀣
.
If some of you think that we’re some kind of politically neutral, social charity organisations or such?
Then so sorry...but we are not!
.
Yes, we LOVE putting all the creatives, antique and people together.
Hoping it to lead us to rediscover the beauty of living, working, and visiting the Isle of Wight, that’s for sure.
.
But really, the beginning of our adventure was purely a labour of love of one dad who sends both his children to the Yarmouth Primary School.
.
And raising money for the kids’ creative future is definitely one of the main aims of ours.
.
Perhaps things turned out slightly bigger as our events grew...but fundamentally, that’s what it is.
.
If the Yarmouth school closed down, we would have absolutely no motivation to get us going,
and we would be gone too.
.
We will not be doing “Freshwater” Xmas Market, or “Shalfleet” Vintage Car Boot Sale.
That’s the bottom line.
.
So the recent proposal from the council to close (or “move”) Yarmouth school is the biggest threat to us of course, that’s one thing.
.
But we feel some people have slightly wrong idea about the situation so we’d like to make it clear if that was okay...
.
First thing people think is, how many kids does Yarmouth have?
.
We have 9 kids who go to the Yarmouth school and nursery.
The rest are mainly from Freshwater and Totland.
(Yes, Yarmouth became REALLY popular over the years😊)
.
A survey that the council took last summer shows, nearly 90% of the whole parents are happy to send their kids to Yarmouth school.
.
We feel, nothing wrong with sending your kids to the next town, as long as they’re happy.
.
You can send your kids to let’s say Oxford University, that’s a great thing.
(Who would argue how many Oxford students are actually from OxfordπŸ˜‚)...
.
We would rather be worried if the Isle of Wight council wanted to “move” Oxford University to FreshwaterπŸ˜…
.
The fact is, many parents and kids took a risk by changing the school to Yarmouth.
.
Nobody wants to move from your own town without a reason.
.
They took the risk to make a change, and 90% of us are all happy as it is, that’s where we are.
*TBC to next post*
